Innovation
The Choices Programme is open to all sectors of the food industry – from manufacturers and retailers to caterers – regardless of their size.
The overall objective of the Programme is to encourage healthy product innovation and the reformulation of existing products so that their nutritional content is in line with the set of international qualifying criteria.
These criteria – which are based on international dietary guidelines and periodically reviewed by an independent International Scientific Committee - take into account the levels of fat, sugar, salt and fibre of products to determine whether they can carry the Choices logo on the front of their packaging. This positive nutrition logo highlights the efforts made by participating companies and caterers, and allows consumers to quickly identify the healthy product options put forward by companies doing their best to encourage healthy eating habits.
As a global initiative, the Choices Programme is open to any manufacturing, retail or catering company.
It relies on:
- a single logo which makes the healthy choice easy to distinguish in a variety of food product and beverage categories;
- transparent nutrition criteria developed by leading, independent scientists;
- independent research which demonstrates that Choices can help consumers to improve their nutrient intakes.
The Choices logo is currently found on approximately 7000 food and beverage products of more than 120 companies. These numbers continue to grow, making the Choices Programme a truly global initiative.
