Research
The Choices Programme helps consumers to choose a healthier diet which can significantly improve their nutrient intakes. This has been demonstrated by scientific research into the effects of the introduction of the Choices stamp that has been carried out in parallel to the Programme’s development.
In The Netherlands, the first country to introduce the Choices Stamp, the VU University Amsterdam – under the guidance of Prof. Jaap Seidell – studies the effects of the introduction of the stamp in The Netherlands since 2007. New findings of this research are regularly published in our Press Room. In addition an overview of the Dutch research related to the Choices stamp is given here. It shows that the Choices stamp is well recognised and considered easy to use by consumers. Furthermore, the Programme stimulates innovation and reformulation of food products. Using the stamp continuously will reduce the intake of nutrients which negatively impact health, while the intake of nutrients with positive health effects subsequently increase.
Similar independent research in other Choices countries is encouraged.
