Scientific Experts in Asia and Latin America Discuss Choices Programme

On 6 October 2009, the Choices International Foundation held a scientific roundtable in Bangkok, Thailand to discuss the potential introduction of the Choices Programme throughout the Asia region. Twenty-four scientists convened, including sixteen nutrition and public health experts from eight different Asian countries, to discuss the relevance and potential opportunities for the programme in those countries.

The roundtable was held during the week of the International Congress on Nutrition, where the Choices Programme showed an additional presence. Jaap Seidell, the Choices International Scientific Committee Chair, presented the Choices Programme during a scientific session and panel discussion, where members of the public and private sector debated the pros and cons of various nutrient profiling systems. In addition, the programme was highly visible at the ICN expo, where delegates from across the globe gathered more information at the Choices stand.

In November 2009, CIF held a similar roundtable in Santiago, Chile. Twenty-four nutrition experts from six countries in Latin America gathered to discuss front-of-pack labelling and the scientific basis of the Choices Programme.
